"I’m soooo glad you’re coming into the studio with me, Sel." Taylor smiled at her friend. "You really need to get Justin off your mind. Really just sing it out," she hugged her friend close, conscious of the soft curves crushing against her thin frame. "It works for me, after all." It had only been a few months since Dianna had pointed after they’d been fooling around out that Taylor’s doting on her best friend had taken a turn for the romantic and once she realized it was true, all Taylor could think of was how Selena’s soft, full lips would feel against hers, how their height difference was just so that holding hands or an embrace from behind would be perfect… But there was always something, someone in the way. Until tonight.
Selena had shown up at Taylor’s house with tear stained cheeks and red eyes from crying after TMZ and Perez had splashed Justin’s tryst with a model all over their front pages. It was just the opportunity that Taylor had been hoping for to test the limits of their friendship.
Leaning her head against Taylor, Selena sighed softly, “I dunno, Taylor, doesn’t it seem a little… Childish?”
"Yeah, but that’s the fun of it! He hurt you, sweetie," she leaned down, pressing her cheek to the smaller girls head, "you don’t want to stoop to his level but you need to get it out. It’s a catharsis. No one even needs to hear it, it can be our private thing."
"Just us?" Selena asked tentatively.
"Just us," Taylor replied with a smile. She led Selena into the studio she’d hastily reserved, setting her guitar case down. "You’re going to be on piano, Sel, do you want me to bring up the music on the iPad so you can see the notes or are you going to play by ear?"
Selena shrugged, “I learned to play by ear, so don’t bother with the notation, you can use it for tabs if you want.” She sat at the piano and Taylor tried not to look predatory as she studied the perfect curve of her hips and how beautiful she looked sitting properly at the piano, her fingers curled over the ivory as she plunked away at the keys, checking that it was properly tuned. It wasn’t until brown eyes met blue that Taylor realized she had been gawking.
Clearing her throat at herself, Taylor stooped down, opening her guitar case, pulling it out, pausing to tune it gingerly, strumming a few chords to be sure. She then slipped over to the mixing board, flicking a few switches, sliding and adjusting the settings. Meanwhile, Selena adjusted the microphone to her height. She watched Taylor curiously, conscious of the sudden turn from friendly concern to long stares and lingering touches. But, she thought to herself, there was no reason for that… Given Taylor’s predilection to bad boys, emphasis on the boys, there was no reason for flirtatious advances from her friend. They’re both straight… Right? Selena shook it off, flexing her fingers as Tay spoke up at last, asking her to sing a bar or two into the mic. She obliged, singing the chorus of the song, fingers dancing over the keys as she sang,
You didn’t have to cut me off,
Make out like it never happened and that we were nothing,
And I don’t even need your love,
But you treat me like a stranger and that feels so rough…
She trailed off, sighing. “Was that good, Taylor?”
"Perfect," Taylor nodded, giving her a thumbs up through the glass. She slipped back into the recording booth, closing the door behind her, walking over to the stool beside the piano, shouldering her guitar strap, sitting with the instrument in her lap, strumming a chord or two again. "It’s recording, so whenever you’re ready."
Selena’s fingers came down harder on the keys this time, playing out a rage she almost didn’t realize was in her. She knew she was upset about Justin but not how deep it struck. Taylor was right, it certainly was cathartic. She started to sing again, from the beginning.
Now and then I think of when we were together,
Like when you said you felt so happy you could die,
Told myself that you were right for me,
But felt so lonely in your company,
But that was love and its an ache I still remember…
Her voice was raw, she hadn’t warmed up, but Taylor stared in awe at the pure emotion coming from her friend, wanting to stop to console away the tears welling in her eyes, but holding back to finish the song, taking up the next verse as they’d decided, alternating verses and singing together on the chorus,
You can get addicted to a certain kind of sadness,
Like resignation to the end, always the end,
So when we found that we could not make sense,
Well you said that we could still be friends,
But I’ll admit that I was glad that it was over…
Selena looked up at Taylor, hearing the faintest want in her voice, the truth in the last line resonating with her earlier thoughts as they sang the chorus together this time.
You didn’t have to cut me off,
Make out like it never happened and that we were nothing,
And I don’t even need your love—
The building rumbled, cutting them off, floor shaking violently. The recording booth went dark suddenly, dim emergency lights blossoming up as the tremor rocked on. Selena jumped up from the piano, throwing her arms around Taylor. “We have to get away from the glass… To a doorway!”
Taylor stood up with the other girls arms still firmly around her, rushing with her over to the doorway between them and the empty room usually occupied by the recording engineer. The two pushed at the door fruitlessly as the shaking slowly subsided. The door was stuck shut. Selena pulled away from Taylor, stepping back to throw her slight weight at the door, trying to force it open. Nothing. “It must have shifted during the earthquake. Shit. Are we stuck in here?” She looked up at Taylor with wide eyes. “That was scary enough without the whole being locked in thing happening.”
Taylor wrapped her arms back around her friend, “I don’t know… It’s off-hours so there’s only a couple of other people here, the security guard and the manager who let us in…” The floor sprung to life again beneath their feet as an aftershock rocked the building. “Lord Jesus, another one??” Taylor closed her eyes, bracing herself and Selena against the doors as the two arms around her tightened, Selena’s face burrowing in her bosom. The aftershock subsided quicker than the initial quake, much to both girls’ relief.
Even as the shaking slowed and stopped, the younger girl remained tightly clinging to her friend. “Ugh,” she mumbled, cheek pressed against Taylor’s breast, “whyyyy do we live in California? That crap doesn’t happen in Texas, or when it does its not THAT scary!”
Taylor dipped her head to plant an affectionate kiss on her friends forehead just as Selena lifted her head to speak, their lips meeting awkwardly in an unintentional kiss. They froze there for a moment before breaking, neither moving too far from the other. “I’m so sorry, I didn’t—” “I wasn’t expecting th—” The two spoke over each other before laughing nervously. “That’s not to say it was bad,” Selena finished, softly. “I mean, you wouldn’t be the first girl I’ve kissed…”
“I wasn’t trying to… to kiss you, I was going to just… give you a little peck on the head and then you… But it wasn’t bad, at all… You wouldn’t be the first girl I kissed, either.”
Selena gasped, swatting Taylor’s arm, “Oh my god, WHO?” She stepped back from Taylor, resuming her seat on the piano’s bench.
Taylor sat beside her, blushing. “Dianna. We’ve… she… we got drunk and fooled around and then it kinda became a regular thing. We weren’t together or anything it was just… just like singing this song it was a good catharsis… and she really knows her way around, if you know what I’m saying…”
Eyes still wide, Selena looked at her best friend in shock. “Oh my god, I had no idea! I’ve never… I’ve kissed like… Demi a few times but we were usually… not sober or being super goofy, I’ve… only ever been with Justin. No one else, boy or girl.”
“Well you’re missing out, Selly.” Taylor teased, poking her side playfully. “Girls are just so soft and delicate where boys are rough and hard…” Selena scooted a bit closer as she listened to Taylor. “It’s like going on your favorite ride at Disneyland, you know exactly where to go, exactly what your favorite part is like and it still thrills you every time. Boys like to rush to the finish but girls… enjoy the ride.” She jumped, surprised at how close Selena had shifted, unaware of the other girl moving closer.
“So are you… telling me that you want… I mean I’ve been getting this vibe from you lately… especially tonight… do you want me? Like… that?”
Taylor swallowed, looking away, “I…” she trailed off, unsure if the truth would be the right answer.
Cupping her face gently, Selena guided Taylor to look back at her. “It’s okay. Just be honest, I’m not here to judge you, sweetie.”
Blonde curls bounced as Taylor nodded her admission. “I do. Dianna noticed it before I did… I’ve just… I don’t know, I’ve always cared about you, Sel… I don’t really know when it turned into more…”
“So…” Selena wrinkled her nose, eyes glittering playfully, “did you really bring me here to record a song or were you trying to get in my panties?” She trailed her finger up Taylor’s denim clad thigh, teasingly.
Taylor swallowed nervously. “Uh, well… I honestly did want to help you get through this whole breakup with Justin… I thought recording the song would be cathartic… But yes, okay, yes, there was a small part, or maybe a huge part of me that wished this would happen but never, ever, ever expected it to happen.”
“Well, they always say to expect the unexpected,” Selena said softly, leaning up to kiss her best friend slowly, sweetly. Taylor made a small, surprised noise before melting into the kiss, returning it in kind, her tongue parting Selena’s lips, whimpering softly as the kiss deepened into more. The teasing hand on Taylor’s thigh became more steady, grasping at her hip as Selena’s keened into hers. The kiss broke sloppily as both girls gasped, a smirk spreading across full lips. “You didn’t expect that, did you?”
“No… no I did not.”
Selena leaned back against the piano, the keys clanging discordantly. “You know…” She trailed her fingers up and down the keys in a faint melody. “I’ve always had this fantasy about having crazy sex on a piano. And we’re stuck here and there is a piano…” Her eyes flitted up to her friends. “We should totally fuck on this piano.”
“Right… right now?” Taylor turned, looking over the piano, mind racing. “I… someone could totally barge in to check on us and see what we’re…” The look on Selena’s face didn’t waver as Taylor rattled off everything that could go wrong, before finally interrupting her.
“Do you want to do this or not?”
“I… yes. I want to do this.”
“Then stop hesitating. You want something, you take it,” Selena smirked as she took hold of the hem of Taylor’s shirt, pulling it up and over her head. She shivered as the cool air of the studio hit her skin, goosebumps raising and disappearing, her nipples hardening against the thin fabric of her bra.
"S…Sel…" She half-hissed, half-whimpered as her friend’s lips found her neck.
Working her fingers deftly over Taylor’s belt and buttons, Selena pushed demandingly at them, still kissing, nipping and sucking gently at the soft skin beneath her lips, eager to relieve her best friend of her jeans. She pulled back, cheeks flushed, eyes sparkling merrily. “Help me get these off of you!” She giggled, caught up in the moment.
The other girl obliged, shifting her hips, letting her slide the denim over her hips and thighs, tossing them aside. “You’re getting me very naked, Selena,” she smirked, “it’s only fair if you let me take some off too, you know.”
Selena stood, giving Taylor full access to her clothes, which she wasted no time in removing, before hoisting herself up onto the piano, swinging her legs beneath her. “Now I’m very naked and you’re still in your bra and panties,” she teased with a smile.
Placing her hands gently on Selena’s soft thighs, she eased her legs apart. “Patience, Sel. I don’t need to take them off if I’m going to be getting you off,” she said with a wink, leaning in to kiss down from Selena’s jaw to her navel, taking time to tease both of her friends nipples on the way.
The younger girl writhed under the touch of her more experienced friend, moaning softly, hands grasping for purchase first on the edge of the piano’s lid, then in the soft curls of Taylor’s hair, tugging gently with a yelp as she felt a curious tongue and fingers part her lips. Her eyelids fluttered and she gasped, whimpering softly. “T-tay…” she stuttered, arching up as she felt Taylor’s tongue swirled around her clit. “Oh!” It felt like nothing Justin ever did to her and she was just getting started. Selena leaned back, propping herself on one elbow, crying out as two fingers eased into her heat, pumping slow and then fast.
Taylor looked up at her, eyes meeting. “Tell me what you want, Sel…” She flicked her tongue against Selena’s clit again, grinning as she yelped in surprise.
“Oh god, Tay… just… don’t stop this is amazing! Just don’t stop, baby!”
The word baby pushed Taylor over the edge, slipping a third finger into her friend, curling and twisting them as she pumped them faster, sucking hungrily at her clit, nipping it gently. Selena arched up a couple of inches off of the piano, crying out as she tensed, clenching tightly around her fingers. She collapsed back against the piano and the strings inside groaned, clanging loudly. “I… oh wow… Taylor… That was…”
“Better than Justin?”
“Better than anything.”
“You mean it? Really?”
“Oh yeah,” Selena smirked, her eyes still glittering in post-orgasmic bliss.
“Well, there’s plenty more where that came from, if you want it.”
“I think I’ll take you up on that offer… Now in the mean time, it’s your turn.” As the words left her mouth, the lights flickered back on, the studio phone jumping to life with a shrill ring. Selena pouted and sighed.
“Don’t worry. We’ll finish this song and then back at my place, you owe me.”
“Deal,” Selena grinned, leaning up, kissing Taylor slowly.
